This session presents research conducted by researchers from the ANU and Refugee Education Australia. It highlights how gaps in Australia’s resettlement system can limit refugees’ long-term participation in education – despite strong initial motivation. Drawing on a decade of longitudinal data, it shows that while English language programs are a critical starting point, many learners face “blocked pathways” into further study, with only 21% transitioning onward.
